On January 22 2004, FRTL participated in a "No Zone Blitz" with the Florida
Trucking Association and Florida Department of Transportation, Motor Carrier Compliance.
This event was held in the Tampa area high schools. We were one of five companies
who supplied their No Zone unit. Our assigned school was Ridgewood High in New Port
Richey.
During the day, 125 driver education students learned about sharing the road with
tractor-trailers.
To learn where the blind spots are, the students were allowed to sit in the cab
to see if they could see the vehicles that had been positioned on each side and
rear of the trailer in the blind spots. This program was very well received by the
students and faculty. Hopefully, the students will now know what our drivers have
to look out for and how they can make themselves visible while driving around tractor-trailers.
Many Thanks to Billy Starling for bringing the truck down from Jacksonville.
